This Week in Black Owned Beauty - 61517

We're back again with three black owned beauty brands that deserve all of your coin! Let's get into it!

1. MDM Flow

MDM Flow's super fly packaging and amazing aesthetic immediately caught my eye. CEO, Florence Adepoju, decided to take beauty matters into her own hands by transitioning her home into a beauty chemistry lab.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

  • Owner: Florence Adepoju, a beauty lover who turned her passion into a career by getting her degree in Cosmetic Science.
  • Must-Have Items: The gold packaging is a must on it's own but I am in love with the V Dutch semi matte lipstick. It is the PERFECT orange lipstick for my complexion. (seen above)
  • Vibe: old school hip hop; as their tagline says - Raw flows and that's how it goes. "The brand’s aesthetic is an ode to '90s hip-hop culture (the gold metal tubing is inspired by chains that rappers wore throughout the decade) and the lipsticks are named after songs Florence listened to growing up, such as “Sweet Escape” (Gwen Stefani) and “Bossy” (Kelis)." (TeenVouge)
  • Where to buy? : You can purchase this brand from its website, and beauty retailers like Dolls Kill and ModCloth.

2. Lena Lashes

Lena Lashes was one of the first brands I noticed intentionally creating liquid lipstick shades that truly complimented darker complexions. I was fortunate enough to meet and create magic with CEO Marlene Aymone.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

  • Owner: Marlene Ayemone, a former YouTuber who started her lash line as a side hustle
  • Must-Have Items: The liquid lippies aka More than Mattes! She's got some shades I can't find ANYWHERE else like Frederique, Lucious, and James
  • Vibe: Luxe and sleek
  • Where to buy? : You can purchase from Lena Lashes through their website

3. Maréna Beauté

I discovered this brand on Instagram and after they sent me some of their products to try, I instantly fell in love! This Swedish brand is creating products for the underserved beauty communities in European countries like Sweden that don't carry makeup products for darker complexions.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

  • Owner: Diarry Maréna, Senegalese - Swedish makeup artist
  • Must-Have Items: In addition to their foundations being formulated for dark complexions, their blushes are amazing! I can't live without "Sweet Brown"
  • Vibe: Cool and Calm
  • Where to buy? : You can purchase this brand from their website or from black owned beauty retailer, Marjani Beauty.
